Giant Galápagos tortoise (Geochelone elephantopus) can weigh up to 250 kg, grow to metres long and live for more than a century. Galapago means tortoise in Spanish and is what gave the archipelago its name. The giant tortoises are found only on the Galápagos Islands. Photographed on Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos .
