Bennie Railplane Monorail Prototype, Milngavie, Scotland. Image taken in 1955. Invented by George Bennie. the Monorail which moved by the use of an overhead rail by way of propellers. It had much interest from around the world but sadly was not able to secure backing. Bennie went bankrupt in 1937 after using his own finances to build and market the idea. The Railplane was constructed between 1929-1930. It spent most of its existence decaying and was eventually sold for scrap in 1956. This extremely rare colour image taken the year before shows how the deteriorated metalwork became. Note that the plane lost its propeller too.
