Preveli is a location on the south coast of the Greek island of Crete, on the Lybian Sea, in the Rethymno regional unit, notable for its historic monastery Moni Preveli. Moni Preveli or The Monastery of Saint John the Theologian stands in splendid isolation high above the Libyan Sea. The monastery contains numerous religious relics and icons, and many of its buildings, now heavily restored, are open to the public.
