Ruth Bancroft Law (1887-1970), US aviator, arriving in New York, USA, in an aeroplane. The pilot's seat is not shielded from the wind or rain. Law received her pilot's license in 1912, and spent the next few years engaging in stunt shows and competing in distance and endurance competitions. She broke the cross-country distance record by flying non-stop from Chicago to New York on 19 November 1916. Photograph from the Bain News Service.
