The new custom-house and post-office, the city hall, built of roughgranite, and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, are prominent public edifices. Thecity is handsomely built throughout, and containsmore than 300 acres of handsome parks andboulevards. Albany manufactures annually abouthalf a million dollars worth of stoves; its manu-. Its numerous other indus-tries include car and general shop construction,printing and publishing, chemicals, tobaccotrade, slaughtering and meat-packing establish-ments, a cracker-bakery, and several exten-sive shoe-factories.
