Hospital at Fort McKavett, a State Historic Site, McKavett, Texas, USA

Hospital at Fort McKavett, a State Historic Site, Texas: Fort McKavett overlooks the San Saba River Valley in Texas. Initially constructed with sandstone foundations and walls and with pecan and oak woods, the fort generally garrisoned 350 to 500 troops. The "new" hospital was completed in 1874 and was built apart from other buildings at the fort to avoid the spread of germs. Along with the fort, it played an integral role in the history of west Texas. After General William T. Sherman visited the fort he said it was "the prettiest post in Texas."
