DIEGO (April 3, 2018) Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Alayn Yasay, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), gives aviation firefighting training for air department Sailors at Naval Base San Diego’s Surface Warfare Officers School Command. Approximately 70 Makin Island Air Department Sailors attended the training to enhance the ship’s aviation firefighting capabilities. Makin Island, home-ported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
