Todd Honored Chosen President of Central Electric Railway Association—His Career as Railway Operator Robert I. Todd, president and gen-eral manager of the Indianapolis(Ind.) Street Railway and the TerreHaute, Indianapolis & Eastern Trac-tion Company, was chosen president ofthe Central Electric Railway Associa-tion at the annual meeting of thatbody at Louisville, Ky., on March 10and 11. Mr. Todds election was notedin the Electric Railway Journal forMarch 13. Mr. Todd has been asso-ciated with the work of the CentralAssociation for many years and hasalready served as first vice-president,but could not be induced to accept thepresidency until this year. He hasnow taken the office reluctantly, buthas pledged himself sincerely to do hisutmost in promoting the interest ofthe member companies. Mr. Todd was born on Nov. 29, 1869,at Lakewood, N. J. He received the. R. I. TODD degree of electrical engineer fromJohns Hopkins University in 1893. Hisconnection with the railway field be-gan while he was still a student at theuniversity, his summers being spentin the employ of the traction companyat Raleigh, N. C, one of the earliestelectric lines in the country. Subse-quently he became connected vvdth theWashington, Eckington & SoldiersHome Railway, Washington, D. C,which was later consolidated into theCity & Suburban Railway, and stilllater into the Washington Railway &Electric Company, serving as superin-tendent and electrical engineer. He left this position in 1899 to be-come connected with the CompressedAir Company as chief engineer, thiscompany having undertaken the de-velopment of compressed air motorsfor the Metropolitan Street Railway,New York City. Later he becamemore directly connected with the lat-ter road, doing engineering work forMr. Starrett, who was then chief engi-neer of this company. In 1900 he wentto Pitts
