All these valves are actuated bycams; the cam-shaft, however, in these engines rotates at the samespeed as the main engine shaft. The pistons are made somewhat deeper than the total length ofstroke. At the lower end of the part of the cylinder barrel uncoveredby the movement of the piston, there are numerous ports leading intothe exhaust passage.
