Traders and customers at the annual Fete de la Figue in the small medieval town of Vezenobres in the southof France.

Every year in late October the medieval village of Vezenobres in the Gard department of southern France plays host to an unusual food festival - that of the fig. Its small squares and narrow roads are full of market stalls selling fig products - fig jam, "nature" and flavoured, fig drinks, fig flavourings in local sausages, ice cream, cakes, biscuits and more besides. There are even fig trees for sale. Each year the villages invites fig growers from other countries to come and participate in their celebration of the fig and all things figgy! Up until now people have come from other European and North African countries bordering the Mediterranean but in 2012 they extended their invitation to Japan and the town of Izumo in the Shimane province of Japan. The region specialises in growing the Figue Taki.
