Former communist college built in monumental Stalinist style, Bogensee, Brandenburg, eastern Germany

The bombastic college campus was built in the early 1950s in the monumental Stalinist style for the FDJ Freie Deutsche Jugend, the youth arm of the communist party that ruled East Germany. Students from other communist nations like Cuba, Nicaragua and Mozambique attended courses there. The site is owned by the city of Berlin. All attempts to find a new use for it have failed since the college closed in 1990. One idea is to convert it into an academy for students displaced by civil war or natural disasters. The deserted complex, flanked by woods, is miles from the nearest village.
