Here one learned toswim and steer in the currents, to lurk quietly, tostrike successfully. After ac(}uiring the physique to withstand hard-ships of heat and cold, some of the more advancedcandidates were admitted to the school of the forestsand to the uncertainties of lifein the trees, where a practicalcourse in the care and feedingof infants was required of allmothers.
