Isosporiasis life cycle. Diagram showing the life cycle of the parasitic protozoan Isospora belli, the cause of isosporiasis. The parasite is found worldwide, although infections are uncommon. Isosporiasis is more prevalent in tropical and subtropical climates and in those that are immunocompromised. Infection can cause severe diarrhoea that results in malabsorption.
