They cut the paddy by means of a peculiar little implement, consisting of a semi-circular blade about three inches in length, securely fixed cross-ways upon a piece of bamboo no more than three and a half inches long, which latter the reaper grasps in some ingenious way, allowing the knife to project between his fingei'S, and with this he manages to get through his work in an incredibly quick time.
