Lichfield Cathedral west front


Lichfield Cathedral showing the west front and the three spires. High level view from a cherry-picker. The sandstone Cathedral was originally founded in 700 AD, and the present building begun in 1195 and built during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Restored after damage in the Civil War, when the central spire was destroyed.
