George Villiers, 2nd Duke of Buckingham, (1628 – 1687) had an affair with the Countess of Shrewsbury led to a duel with her husband at Barn Elms on 16 January 1668, in which the Earl of Shrewsbury was fatally wounded. That the countess witnessed the encounter disguised as a page appears to have no foundation
