There are booths on both sides of the streets in all the pripcipal parts of the city and a whole army of people are inhabit- ing them, selling fireworks, trinkets and Christmas decorations. From the amount of holly that has arrived during the last few days, one would be led to think there is no more left in the woods. Mistletoe is conspicuous by its almost entire absence. The quality of the decorative greens is better this year than usual, but a great deal of it will remain unsold when the holidays are over. One not accustomed to this part of the country does not realize what Christmas means in the south. It is the one festival occasion of the year and lasts for a week at least. From the humblest negro cabin to the grand- est resilience in the west end, everyone must have decorations. The cemeteries are decorated at this time of year in a way that is almost wholly unknown in the north and west. The florists get most of this cemetery work and they are working night and day getting ready for deliveries. Loads of red cedar trees come down every pike these days and are offered on the streets for T'hristmas trees. The red cedar is the Christmas tree here and a pretty one it makes, too. Carnations were never in as good supply as they are at present and the quality is as good as the quantity. There are a
