Sobhi Mahmoud Hafez was born in Damascus in 1950. He became an officer with the rank of captain in the Deterrence Forces of the Special Units in the Syrian Army. He married in 1974 and had 3 children, a boy and two girls. He fought the October Liberation War, as it is known in Syria, or the Yom Kippur War, as it is known in Israel and in the West, which was a war launched by both Egypt and Syria against Israel in 1973. He held the rank of captain for four years and served in Lebanon. In the year 1980 he was summoned for investigation by the Syrian intelligence in regard to his brother Youssef

Since the time of his interrogation in Lebanon, there has been no contact between him and his family. Only years later, news arrived of his death under torture inside the Adra Sednaya in Damascus. The news came from prisoners who had been detained in the Sednaya prison at the same time as Captain Subhi Mahmoud Hafez and were successively released
