This makes thethird tapping of water from old abandoned workings in my districtthese five years, and great caution and care has been displayed by thosein charge to prevent loss of life in advancing towards these old work-ings. I travelled the old workings of the Barry slope after the waterhad been run off, in company with Mr. William Broughall, districtsuperintendent, and Mr. Thoihas Frost, assistant inside foreman, when50 yards from being through, bore holes were kept 22 feet in advanoe ofthe face of gangway until tapping the
