Flatford Lock on the River Stour at Flatford Mill, Suffolk which appears in works by the famous English painter John Constable (1776-1837)


The first lock at Flatford was built in the early 18th century. John Constable's paintings included the lock in "Scene on a Navigable River' painted 1816-17 and in "Boat Passing a Lock" in 1824. The area around Flatford Mill (owned by Constable's father) and the lock is open to the public
