He was appointed a Clerk in the Registry, inwhich position he served until he became Assistant Register,April 4, 1883, serving in that capacity until the day of his 1873 to 1875 he was a member of Company A, FourthBattalion Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, rising to the rank ofcorporal. In 1882 and 1886 he was sergeant of the A. H. In 1876 he was appointed Assistant Inspector-Gen-eral Massachusetts Militia, with the rank of was also a member of the Masonic Fraternity.
