Bow River valley during a major flood on June 22, 2013 (left) and 5 years later on June 22, 2018 in a year of normal rainfall, Calgary, Canada

June 22, 2013 (left) Floodwaters recede after washing away parts of the bike path along Memorial Drive north of the Bow River in central Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Heavy rains caused the river to overflow its banks and led to declaration of a state of emergency, mandatory evacuation orders for the downtown core and many residential areas, power outages and property damage. June 22, 2018 (right) The river stayed within its normal channel. The bike/pedestrian path was rebuilt.
