When not serving as aloader it is equally useful for the piling of commodities instorage. Because of its compact size it can be moved fromfloor to floor without much trouble on the average platformelevator. For handling drums or barrels a carrier of from J^ 1% in. drop axles, with end rollers running on thehorizontal legs of the side-truss angles, makes a rugged. Truck Loading Made Easy construction and forms a natural cradle for such cylindricalpackages. This carrier will also elevate bags, bales, orcases, although not so well as a carrier composed of heavywood slats with cleats. For heavy cases or drums speedsof from 30 ft. to 50 ft. per min. are usual, with maximumcapacities of about one ton per minute. When such a ma-chine is to be moved over rough surfaces out of doors 12in. to 18 in. wheels at one end are preferable to the usualsteel casters. A short section of gravity conveyor on longtrucks aids materially in moving cases, boxes, etc., fromthe discharge end of the conveyor to the front end of thetruck.
