The earth work of the second unit of the Dodson NorthCanal, Milk River Irrigation Project, near the town ofMalta, Mont., was done by contract under the direction of. the United States Reclamation Service, C. H. Schlect,Project Manager, and F. O. Hansen, Superintendent ofConstruction for the Service. Work was begun on Sept. 1,1913, and completed on Sept. 1, 1914. There were 230,000cu. yd. of in canals and 70,000 cu. yd. inwaste water ditches. The canals were from 5 to 10 with a slope of 2 to 1, and contained from 100cu. yd. to 1,300 cu. yd. to the station averaging about 20,000 cu. yd. was wet and 30,000 cu. hillside work. The waste water ditches had from 3 ft. to 20 (mostly 3 ft.) with a slope of iy2 to 1, andaveraged about 100 cu. yd. per station; 10,000 cu. yd. waswet excavation. About 35,000 cu. yd. were cast into thecanal banks with an Austin reversible elevating grader l-Vhr-rtJR*^-
