Lotfollah Mosque (1603-1619), Naghsh-e Jahan Square, Isfahan, Iran
The famous Lotfollah Mosque (1603-1619), an architectural masterpiece with exquisite mosaic tiles, is located on the east side of the square near the Imam (Shah) Mosque on the huge Naghsh-e Jahan square. It is one of the great treasures of Persian architecture from the Safavid period, and it, and the square it sits on, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This mosque is smaller than Shah mosque with no minarets. It was built as a private mosque for the ladies of Shah Abbas' harem. Creation of the calligraphy and tiles, of superb beauty and quality, was overseen by Master calligrapher Ali Reza Abbasi.
