The spine is steadied by lion-jawed cord curls in a spiral as it emerges and rests on the sterile musclesof the neck. It is lifted with forceps, placed in a Petri dish and cutin two. A small piece is cut from one end and is dropped into a tubeof broth to test its purity. Drying the Cord.—^The drying bottles are sterile aspiration bottleswith both openings plugged with cotton.
