There are several species of Muncooses of the genus Herpestes. the Large GreyMuncoose [Herpestes eaffer) of a speckled grey colour, the Slender Mungoose. the WaterMuncoose, the Small Grey Mungoose and the White-tailed Mungoose are all fairlycommon. The Banded Mungoose ( re bus faseiatus) is grey and has some seventeen blackand white bands over the posterior part of the body. It is social in its habits and can sit upon its haunches.
