The side-lever snap-action gun has one staunchadherent in the English gun trade ; it was at onetime much patronised by American sportsmen, butthe consensus of opinion is now in favour of thetop-lever form of breech-action in one of its severalvarieties. With the lever on the top of the breech,it is possible to carry the gun in any safe mannerwithout catching or displacing the lever. Thesportsman cannot be mistaken as to the gun beingproperly fastened, whilst its position and short hori-zontal travel to the right make it the handiest, aswell as the easiest, to manipulate.
