The church was dedicated by Bishop Ellison 20th May, 1908, and soon thereafterRev. Henry Burdon, , was appointedpriest-in-charge. Mr. Burdon was formerlywell known in Aberdeen as curate of , and under him the new causeat St. Marks has been making satisfactoryprogress. The erection of St. Marys Cathedralmarked an important forward step on thepart of the Roman Catholic community inAberdeen. For many years they had metin St. Peters Chapel, Justice Street, but,with a steady increase in numbers and ininfluence they began to consider the advisa-bility of building a new place of worshipmore imposing in appearance and fartherwest in the city. The outcome of this wasthe erection of the splendid edifice inHuntly Street, which is a striking monu-ment to the enterprise and liberality ofthe Catholics of those earlier years. Thededication of the building to St. Mary ofthe Assumption took place on Thursday,21st December, 1860, Bishop Kyle, of theNorthern District, officiating.
