El Born.
The area where it had been occupied by "walk the Esplanade" a safe space between the Ciutadella in Barcelona and the rest of the city. When this was demolished in 1869, the city council commissioned a development project in the area Josep Fontserè gained market and projected to supply food Born in Barcelona. Born was in operation at the central market of the city until 1971. Once closed, it predicted disappearance, but the demands of local residents and other groups saved it from demolition and was restored between 1977 and 1979. In 2002 works were installed -there Provincial Library of Barcelona, and appeared the remains of the medieval and modern city. We chose to preserve the remains and transfer the project to the library to another location. At present the market these shelters archaeological remains relevant part of the Ribera district demolished for the construction of the Citadel in 1717, after the defeat of the war of succession. Born opened on 11 September 2013 as "El Born Cultural Center," taking advantage of the celebration of the Day, including archaeological sites, a museum on the war of succession in Catalonia and several rooms for cultural uses.
