Star cluster NGC 6520. Optical image of the open star cluster NGC 6520 (lower centre). These bright stars are millions of years old, which makes them very young in stellar terms. At centre is an absorption nebula (black), a large cloud of gas and dust that absorbs the light of the stars behind it. The stars of NGC 6520 may have formed from this nebula. This image was produced using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.
