The murder of Rizzio before Mary Queen of Scots in 1566

Illustration from Cassell's illustrated history of England published circa 1896. Mary's husband Darnley had become convinced she was having an affair with Rizzio & plotted with his friends to murder him. Mary never forgave Darnley, later marrying the Earl of Bothwell who was implicated in Darnley's subsequent murder, although this too may have been against her will.
