Propanoic acid reacting with magnesium ribbon. Propanoic is a carboxylic acid, a weak acid. Propanoic is also known as propionic and propiolic acid. Even in its concentrated form it does not have a very high reaction with magnesium ribbon. Hydrogen gas is released during the reaction.
