The signs of cancer are bleeding, offensive vaginal dis- charge, and sometimes pain,which usually lead womento seek advice. On examination, if the caseis in its early stage, the edgesof the os will be found evert-ed (Fig. 72), and a fungousmass protrudes from the ca-nal and bleeds on the slight-est touch. Diagnosis is rare-ly difficult. Conditions sometimes mis-taken for cancer are aden-omatous disease of the cer-vical endometrium (erosion) The first two are the signs. Fig. -Cancer of the cervix (A. A fatal termination is induced in a variety of ways : 1. The ulceration may open the uterine artery and cause fatal hemorrhage. 2. Repeated bleedings lead to exhaustion and death. Ovary infiltrated with cancer.
