Bucktown, Maryland - The historic Bucktown Village Store. The store was the site of Harriet Tubman's first act against slavery; the 13-year-old was nearly killed when she came to the aid of another slave who was being disciplined by an overseer. Tubman escaped slavery in this area in 1849, but returned repeatedly to help other slaves flee. The Bucktown Village Store is one of dozens of Harriet Tubman and Underground Railroad historic sites on Maryland's eastern shore.
