Now slip the end of the tubeon the cannula, loosen the pinchcock, and inject by strip-ping the rubber tube; or the process might well be describedby the term milking, as it is like that process. Hold theupper part of the tube with one hand, and with the other themass may be driven into the aorta. One great advantage ofthis method over the use of a syringe, is that the operator ARTERIES AND VEINS. 69 constantly feels the degree of resistance; for the pressure isgiven directly by the fingers, instead of through a advantage is that the retort stand holds itself; andif it becomes necessary to stop the pressure at any time, thepinchcock may be applied to the tube, and both hands arefree for any needed adjustment, while everything is held inreadiness to go on with the work after simply loosening thepinchcock.
