Neg- lected windows were again made at- tractive. The stocking of the stores with palms and ferns has begun, the outlook is again optimistic, and the war has been "talked to ; Some of the wholesalers have signs in their windows, "Can the war talk! AVe are ; The rose supply in the wholesale mar- ket is increasing daily. Nearly all the new varieties are now arriving regu- larly and abundantly. Most of the stock is small and short-stemmed. Prices have not yet advanced, but the clean- ups are more satisfactory, and the s^ lected stock of Beauties, Kussell, Ward, Shawyer, Double Killarney, Ophelia and Sunburst is absorbed early by the first-class stores. American Beauties manifest an upward tendency. Carnatidn arrivals are improving daily in size of flower and length of stem. There will be plenty of the new stock, but not new varieties. The nov- elties are few. It is too early to an- nounce the favorites. There will be nothing better than the favored few of last season. Valley was the sensation of the week, the price at times rising to $4 per hun- dred and occasionally touching $5. On Saturday good stock could be had for $3. A few of the large growers around New York are fortunately well supplied with pips, and no exorbitan
