No. 6 mill was built in 1892, beingan extension of No. 5, and in 1901No. 7 mill was built, both of whichare constructed of brick, so that atthe present time the company operates60,000 spindles and produces goodsto the value of $1,500,000 annually. The company has been most for-tunate from the first in having for itsagents men of high personal charac-. Ne\vmarket Manufacturing Companys Mills The companys payroll at this timeamounted to about $11,000 per month. The mills which had been erectedup to this time were all constructedof stone, the first three being built oflarge blocks of granite, and the fourthof a kind of trap-rock or slate. The first of the companys buildingsto be constructed of brick was No. 5mill, which was built in 1881 and hasbeen used exclusively for is a two-story structure, 363 feetlong and 94 feet wide, with tower andbasement, which stands between MainStreet and the Lamprey River in thebusiness section of the town. Uponthe completion of this building thecompany ran 55,000 spindles, turnedout 300,000 yards of cloth per week, ter and keen business ability, whosedignity and integrity have made theirpresence and residence in Newmarketa most valuable asset to the town.
