THE DISTRICT OF HANKOW THE Travelling Secretary en-tered the District of Hankowon Thursday, September 17,and left it on Wednesday,October 21, a period of thirty-five daysand nights, of which seventeen nights,and nine and a half days were spentupon the waters of the Yang-tsze. Four days were given to Hankow it-self, four and a half to Wuchang, fourand a half to Ichang. Other visitsmade in Hanyang, Shasi, Hanchuan,Tsen-huang-Kang, Hsimakea, Shiba,Changsha, Kuling, Kiu-kiang, Anking•and Wuhu lasted from one hourto two days and a half each. The mere statement of this fact willgive an idea of the length of time ittakes to visit up and down the greatwaterway of China, though it gives noidea of the size of the missionary dis-trict as a whole, and of the time thatwould be consumed in visiting thoseregions lying beyond Ichang and in theinterior back from the river.
