Nash Point lighthouse and fog horn South Wales
Nash Lighthouse was designed by James Walker, the Engineer-in-Chief to Trinity House, in 1832 to mark the sandbanks off the point at the entrance to the Bristol Channel. The decision to build it followed a public outcry after the passenger steamer FROLIC was wrecked with heavy loss of life in 1830. There were two towers 1000 feet apart. Now only one light remains, although the two towers remain. It is 37 metres high and was converted from a fixed light to a new first order catadioptric lens was installed which gives a white and red group flashing. Nash Point Lighthouse was the last manned lighthouse in Wales to go automatic when it became computer controlled in 1998. The keepers left two years later. It has a very large fog horn alongside.
