Mars 2020 rover on Mars, illustration. The Mars 2020 mission is scheduled to launch in July 2020 and land in February 2021. The rover will have 16 surface cameras, an autonomous drone (Mars Helicopter Scout), and a rock sampling cacher (shown here). Cameras include Mastcams and SuperCam (remote micro-imager). On the robotic arm are: SHERLOC (Scanning Habitable Environments with Raman and Luminescence for Organics and Chemicals) with its WATSON (Wide Angle Topographic Sensor for Operations and eNgineering) camera, and PIXL (Planetary Instrument for X-Ray Lithochemistry). Other sensors are: Radar Imager for Mars' subsurface experiment (RIMFAX), Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA) and Mars Oxygen ISRU Experiment (MOXIE). Mars 2020 is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program.
