Henry6 Hitchcock (Samuel5, JVoa/i4, Nathaniel*, John2,Luke1) son of Judge Samuel and Lucy Caroline (Alleu) Hitchcock,was born in Burlington, Vt., Sept. 19, 1792. He graduated at theUniversity of Vermont with honor in 1811. The death of his fatherleft him with care of farm and family on his hands, but he managedto get time for a thorough legal education. He then, in 1816, wentto St. Stephens, near Mobile, and then a part of Mobile Territory,where he gained the highest reputation as a lawyer and where he mademoney. In 1819 he was appointed Attorney General for Alabamaand later moved to Mobile. He successively filled the offices ofDistrict Attorney, Justice of the Supreme Court (of Alabama) andlater Chief Justice. Speculations in real estate now took much ofhis time and
