It was discovered by the Hayden ExplorationParty of 1872, and received its name under the. PALACE BDTTE. following circumstances: While camped atFort Ellis, and making preparations for the ex-plorations of tlie famous Yellowstone Expedition,the party was joined by Mr. William Blackmore,of London, one of Eng-lands scientific men. Withhim came his wife, who wasanxious to see some of thebeauties and wonders ofour famous YellowstoneNational Park. Thefatigue and liardships ofthe journey from Corinneto Bozeman, 600 miles ofstaging, proved too arrival at Bozeman, shewas taken ill, and after asickness of but two days,she died. Her grave lies atthe foot of a mountainlange, from which therelises a grand peak, stand-ing up like a huge moim-mcnt to her memory. Tothis peak the party gave thename of Mt. height above the sea is10,134 feet. The ascent isexceedingly difficult, andrequired over four daysby the party who succeed-ed, and the scene fromthe summit is inexpress-ibly grand, and the fieldof vision is a birds-eye view isgained of the GallatinKiver
