Woodward Received 6th October, 1959 From about the middle of April, 1958, and subsequently until the beginning of September, an adult 6* Blackbird Turdus merula Linnaeus with a peculiar plumage 4 'disfigurement" was noted at Barnard Castle, Co. Durham, almost every day during this period. The "disfigurement" was in the region around the bird's hind neck and throat (see figure below), giving the bird a shaven appearance.
