Storm surge foaming seas and High Tide force closure of Blackpool promenade to vehicles and pedestrians as high winds and huge waves & flooding disrupts the town. "Storm surges begin when a rising area of low pressure takes pressure off the surface of the sea, allowing it "bulge" upwards, as that pulls away, you get the very strong winds on the back edge of the low pressure and then that shoves that bulge of high sea levels down through the North Sea." Wind speeds were measured at 67mph.

The Environment Agency said the North Sea coast from Northumberland to the Thames Estuary was at risk. BBC news Blackpool. "A man is seriously ill in hospital after becoming trapped under a taxi during stormy weather in Blackpool. Lancashire Constabulary said he was blown into the path of the vehicle near the promenade. He was rescued by firefighters using high-pressure airbags to lift the taxi. The promenade was closed for several hours during high-tide, but has now re-opened."
