To avoid this, press with the left hand the MECHANICAL FIXATION 17 tooth to be drilled firmly towards the gold retainmg-wall. The pin, when put through, is kept in placeby an assistant with pliers. Next, drill through theopposite canine, again pass a pin through this, the entire retaining appliance being thus fixedfor further drilling. To avoid any inexactitude inthe drilled canals, pass a fissure-burr through eachhole. The six teeth drilled, take another impression, re-moving in one impression both the retaining-wall. In case the compound passes between the pins, re-move it carefully, and press any displaced pins backinto the grooves that are visil^le in the model shows the retaining appliance with six 2 18 THE TIGHTENING OF LOOSE TEETH pins (Fig. 14). These are drawn out and replaced bygold-wire pins of the same size, extending on bothsides about 2 millimetres. By cutting the solder intonarrow strips, small rings are obtained which shouldbe placed on the gold wire. On the model the goldwires are soldered to the retaining-wall, whichshould be boiled in dilute sulphuric acid. Overhanging portions of the pins should be cut off, finished, and polished.
