Original British Railways logo

When British Railways was formed in 1948, by nationalising the four independent railway companies, this was the logo chosen to represent the single new company. It was in use from 1948 to 1956. It was also affectionately known as 'The Ferret and Dartboard' or the 'Unicycling Lion'.
