Alexander McCarrell was born near Cross Creekvillage, Washington County, Pennsylvania, June 15,1819. Very precious memories clustered around the hourof his childhood. His father, a moral man, did notbecome a professed follower of the Saviour till quitelate in life. His mother was a devoted Christian. Herexample, prayers, and instruction left their impresson his son—the child of the covenant. He hastold me it was the aim and effort of her life that heshould become a minister of the Gospel. Brother McCarrell regarded as his father in the Lord, and always spokeof him with great respect as the man who, more thanany other, turned him to the Saviour and the the college his record was that of a diligent stu-dent and a consistent Christian.
