The statue of Ludvig Holberg 1684 – 1754. Danish / Norwegian writer, essayist, philosopher, historian and playwright born in Bergen, Norway, during the time of the Dano-Norwegian double monarchy. Ludvig Holberg spent most of his life in Denmark - influenced by Humanism, the Enlightenment and the Baroque. Considered the founder of modern Danish and Norwegian literature - best known for his comedies. He was also a landowner and baron, often called the father of Danish literature.
