When twenty-three years of age he married Miss Mary Ranney, with whom he lived sixyears, when deaths summons came to her, leaving a familyof four children,—Willie E., Luther J., Burritt B., andMary J. Again, on July 16, 1861, he married Sophia Ran-ney, a sister of his first wife. By his second wife he hadeight children,—Cora A., Melvin C, Sallie P., Floyd, LeonB., Morris K., Lucetta L., Nora W. In January, 1865, he moved to Duplain, Clinton Co.,and, in company with I). F. Sheldon, 0. A. Clark, and , purchased two hundred acres of timbered land and. WILLIS LEACU. erected a steam saw-mill, which was successfully operatedfor three years. In 1868, Sheldon, Ranney, and Leachpurchased several hundred acres of wild lands in the southpart of Saginaw and Gratiot Counties, to which they re-moved their mill. The following year, 1869, Leach andRanney purchased the interest of Sheldon. From the dateof Leach and Ranneys purchase to January, 1872, themill property and lumber was three times destroyed by fire,and still they prosecuted the work with a will and energyworthy of success. Mr. Leachs health being somewhatimpaired,.he determined upon removing to the first purchaseto recuperate, and for the better advantages of schooling hischildren. He continued in failing health until March 2,1880, when deaths summons came, regretted by all withwhom he had been associated.
